In other words, no one is a child of God simply because their parent is a Christian. God only has first generational children, through the gracious, atoning, miraculous, salvific work of regeneration (we must be born again, born of the Spirit, born of God). We are children of God by faith (Ga. 3:26).

A new and righteous relationship with God is transformation through regeneration (experiential new beginning), justification (legal reconciliation), sanctification (cleansing from sin in our actions, conscience, and nature), and edification (building up and growing in grace and knowledge), leading to resurrection and ultimately glorification.
